Club Information

In 1967, a group of GAA supporters in Shannon formed the town’s first GAA club, initially named Shannon Airport GAA and Athletic Club. The club later became Wolfe Tones na Sionna CLG, a name now recognized across Ireland. The first games were played in Ballymurtagh, and in 1972, new fields, a clubhouse, and dressing rooms were opened, making Wolfe Tones a central hub for social life in the rapidly growing town.
Success on the field came quickly, with the club winning County Junior A Football Championships in 1967 and 1972, followed by a Senior Football League win in 1974 and Junior A Championship in 1974. In 1979, the U12 A Football Championship was won, and the club enjoyed national success with three consecutive Feile na Gael wins from 1986-1988, culminating in a remarkable “Grand Slam” of underage A titles in 1988.
The adult teams followed suit, with Wolfe Tones winning the Senior Hurling Championship in 1996 and reaching the All-Ireland Club Final in 1997. The club reclaimed the Senior Hurling Championship in 2006 and won the County Intermediate Football Championship in 2014 and 2015.
By 2024, the club achieved a major milestone by regaining senior status in both hurling and football. Wolfe Tones na Sionna operates as a ONE CLUB club, offering Hurling, Football, Ladies Football, and Camogie, with impressive facilities including multiple pitches, a members bar, and a gym.
