Ennistymon CBS 1-9 Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine (Kerry)1-6
A more determined Ennistymon CBS side deservedly denied holders Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine, Kenmare a hat-trick of Munster Colleges Corn Na Carraige (U16½ FC) titles in miserable conditions at Rathkeale yesterday. The Clare side trailed their Kerry opponents 1-2 to 0-4 after 25 minutes despite benefiting from a strong wind.
Inbhear Sceine midfielder John Rice dominated the opening spell, while Killian Spillane — son of Kerry legend Tom — scored a brilliant goal in the 20th minute.
However, Ennistymon, thanks to three Barry Keating frees and points from Aaron Murrihy, Shane Doyle and Joseph Gallagher, hit back before Michael Duffy’s goal edged them into a 1-6 to 1-2 interval lead.
The Kenmare side were hit by the loss of Rice to a knee injury in the 38th minute and their attack struggled.
Ennistymon added three points from Joseph Gallagher (two) as well as a free from Keating, as the Clare side held out for victory in trying conditions.
Meanwhile, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne completed a Kerry Colleges football treble when they defeated Tarbert CS 2-10 to 1-6 in the replay of the Russell Cup final.

Chorca Dhuibhne 0-10 St Flannan’s 1-3 A tally of 13 wides and a failure to convert two first half goal opportunities proved costly for St Flannan’s footballers at Rathkeale on Wednesday and were a huge contributing factor to their loss to last year’s beaten finalists, Chorca Dhuibhne, in the quarter-final of the Corn Ui Mhuirí, Munster Colleges Senior A Football Championship.
Originally scheduled for Croagh, the game was switched to Abbeyfeale on Tuesday. However, a pitch inspection ten minutes before the scheduled 1.30 throw-in time led referee Richard Moloney to declare the venue unplayable. A hurried search for an alternative saw Moloney quickly secure the use of a pitch in Rathkeale and the match got underway over an hour after the appointed time.
St Flannan’s played with the wind in the first half and took the lead after four minutes when captain Conor Cleary converted a 30m free. Despite having the majority of play, they had to wait until the 18th minute for their next score, a point from Martin O’Leary, whose effort went over the bar when it might have been a goal.
A minute later Tadhg Lynch race through the Dingle defence but as the winner’s goalkeeper Gavin O’Currain advanced, Lynch saw his effort go narrowly wide. Clearly the West Kerry players were relieved not to have been seven points down instead of two.
Another Conor Cleary point stretched the Clare side’s lead to three after 20 minutes but, from here to the half-time whistle, Dingle scored five times to lead by two at the interval. The writing was on the wall by now as St Flannan’s would have to face the breeze that was getting stronger all the time.
Dingle had two early second half points from free taker Dara Ó Sé but, in the seventh minute, St Flannan’s were given a huge boost when they struck for the game’s only goal, team captain Conor Cleary getting a touch to a high delivery to direct the ball to the net. They piled on the pressure but just could not break down the winners’ defence.
Overall, Dingle’s ability to convert chances proved decisive on the day when a lack of match practice proved a problem for the Clare side.
Gearóid Ryan, Jack Browne, Tony Kelly, Conor Cleary, Martin O’Leary and Barry Lynch worked hard throughout for St Flannan’s while Dingle had imperessive performers in Cathal O’Luing, Padraig Ó Sé, son of former Kerry star Páidi who was an interested spectator at the game, Dara Ó Sé, Brian O’Raoll and Tomas O’Ciobhain.

St Flannans College, Ennis were forced to dig deep against a gallant Intermediate School Killorglin side at a rain-lashed Croagh pitch, before garnering the draw they needed to advance to the knockout stages of this year’s Corn Ui Mhuiri. St Flannan’s and Killorglin finished level on points, but the Clare side went through because of a superior points difference.
Killorglinled early on 0-4 to 0-2 following points from Niall O’Riordan, Liam Quirke and two well-struck Fergal Hallissey frees.
St Flannan’s Kelly and Browne responded and three points from Darragh Kerin, Jack Browne and Conor Cleary gave them the lead briefly but a fine point from Gary O’Sullivan saw the game level at the interval.
However Flannan’s went on to lead 0-10 to 0-8 with time running out but gutsy Killorglin levelled the tie.

Rochestown (Cork) 2-11 West Clare Colleges 1-2 Led by outstanding midfielder Shane Kingston, Rochestown eased into the Munster U-15A colleges semi-final at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick last Thursday. West Clare Colleges were competitive throughout the first half but missed some good scoring chances.
Rochestown led 1-4 to 0-1 at half-time, with Kingston scoring 1-3 of their total. He scored three points in the opening two minutes.
Full-forward David Killeen was West Clare Colleges only first-half scorer, pointing two minutes before half-time. However, centre-back Colm Pyne made two sweeping runs from centre-back, the first of which resulted in a 45 after he shot for goal. Minutes later, Pyne again rampaged forward but shot wide this time.
Thirteen minutes into the second half West Clare Colleges full-back Cathal Downes goaled from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit, 2-9 to 1-1. However, the same player had a second penalty saved in injury time. Centre-forward Shane O’Donoghue pointed West Clare Colleges only second half point from a free.
Shane Kingston and Liam Dineen scored all of Rochestown’s second half tally.
Niall McCarthy and Cathal Downes tried hard in the West Clare Colleges full-back line while Colm Pyne also gave it everything in the half-backs. Up front, Gary Stephens showed well in the first half while David Killeen and Cian Murphy also had a few good moments.

St Flannan's 4-9 West Clare Colleges 0-5 A powerful performance by captain Conor Cleary inspired St Flannan's college to an easy win at Hennessy Park. The amalgamation team, competing in the championship for the first time, struggled from an early stage and missed two gilt-edge scoring chances in the opening quarter. Goals from David Conroy and Tadhg Lynch in the final five minutes of the half helped the winners to a half-time lead of 11 points, 2-6 to 0-1. A goal from the Flannan's skipper in the third minute of the second half killed off any hopes West Clare might have had of getting back into contention. As the game entered the final quarter, substitute Dara Kerin hit the winner's fourth goal and to add to the losers' woes, they were reduced to 14 men for the final eight minutes when goalkeeper Eamonn O'Dea was sent off. On Wednesday 25th June the West Clare colleges
(Kilkee,Kilrush,Kilmihil,Kildysart) took part in the St Flannans Father O
Doherty 1st year blitz Cup and and recorded victories over Marist College
Athlone, St Colmans of Claremorris and St Flannans to progress into the final
later in the day. However in the final they met also unbeaten Connacht
1st year League and Championship winners St Jarlaths of Tuam who with the aid
of a strong breeze lead 1-7 to no score at half time. The West Clare lads
scored 2-1 without reply midway through the 2nd half to leave a goal
between the sides, however Jarlaths responded in style adding 3 goals before
the finish to leave the final score St Jarlaths 4-7 to W.Clare 2-3.
The progress made by the W.Clare side playing at this level
was evident throughout all of yesterdays games and playing against a school of Jarlaths tradition has showed the

The
St. Flannans First Year
Football blitz will take place at 10:30am on Wednesday the 26th May to compete for the O`Doherty Cup in
honour of Fr O Doherty who coached football for many years in the school. Each
team will be guaranteed three games.
There will be two groups of three with the
top two teams progressing to the semi-finals. The two third placed teams will
play off. Games will last 30 mins , 15 minutes a half.
