Goalkeeping Workshop Held By Ken Hogan In Sixmilebridge on Wed March 18th 2009. Drill 1 a) o o A C B o o o is the bollards. They should be 10m apart for width and 20m apart for length. The players are represented by A, B and C. Player A and player B begin with the sliotars. Player C is facing player A to start. Player A goes side to side between the bollards. Player C follows player A’s direction. Player A handpasses the ball to Player C who returns it and turns around to face player B. Player B goes side to side between the bollards. Player C follows player B’s direction. Player B handpasses the ball to Player C who returns it and turns around to face player A. The exercise repeats itself. b) o o A C B o o o is the bollards. Player A goes side to side between the bollards. Player C follows player A’s direction. Player A strikes the ball low to Player C who controls it and goes to the side and returns it to player A. He then turns around to face player B. Player B goes side to side between the bollards. Player C follows player B’s direction. Player B strikes the ball low to Player C who controls it, heads to the side and returns it. He then turns around to face player A. The exercise repeats itself. c) o o A C B o o o is the bollards. Player A strikes the ball low to Player C who simultaneously strikes his/her ball to player A. They both control the sliotar being struck to them. He then turns around to face player B. Player B strikes the ball low to Player C who simultaneously strikes his/her ball to player B. They both control the sliotar being struck to them. He/she then turns around to face player A. The exercise repeats itself. Drill 2) a) X C X o B o A X are the goalposts. o are the bollards. The players are represented by A,B and C. Player A and Player B start with the sliotars. Player A is 50/60m out from goals while Player B is to the left of the goals and 20/25m out. Player A strikes a sliotar for the Player C to catch, he/she catches it and retuns it to player A. Player B then shoots at player C and forces him/her into the save, he/she saves collects the ball and returns it to player B. Repeat the exercise over. b) X C X o B o A X are the goalposts. o are the bollards. The players are represented by A,B and C. Player A and Player B start with the sliotars. Player A is 50/60m out from goals while Player B is to the right of the goals and 20/25m out. Player A strikes a sliotar for the Player C to catch, he/she catches it and retuns it to player A. Player B then shoots at player C and forces him/her into the save, he/she saves collects the ball and returns it to player B. Repeat the exercise over. c) X C X B A X are the goalposts. The players are represented by A,B and C Player A has the sliotars and is 50/60m out from goals. Player B stands at the small square and Player C is in goals. Player A strikes a head high ball into the square. Player B makes a nuisance of himself in front of the goalie but those not attempt to play the ball. Player C must catch or control the ball and clear it. Repeat the exercise over. Drill 3) X C X A B X are the goalposts. The players are represented by A,B and C. Player A and B start with the sliotars. They line themselves up on the edge of the small square just inside the left and right handside posts while player C acts as the goalie. Player C needs no hurley for this exercise. Player A lobs the ball for the corner of the net, Player C must shuffle across, catch the ball and return it to player A, player B then lobs his/her ball for the opposite corner and player C must shuffle across, catch it and return it to him/her. Player A then lobs his/her ball for their corner and the exercise repeats itself. (N.B. for variety player A and B can occasionally lob the sliotar for the opposite corner than they are at, thus making Player C readjust his/her feet and change direction). Drill 4) a) X C X o o A B X are the goalposts. o are the bollards. Players are represented by A,B and C. Players A and B are have the sliotars. They are placed on the 21m line at an angle to the left and right handsides. Cones should be 15/20m from the endline. Player A takes a shot on the Player C who blocks and clears it, as soon as he/she is back in position Player B takes a shot from the opposite side. Player C must again block, clear the ball and get back into position as quickly as possible. Player A then restarts the drill all over again. b) X C X o o A B X are the goalposts. o are the bollards. The players are represented by A,B and C.Players A and B have the sliotars. They are placed on the 21m line. Player C is the goalkeeper and stands with his back to player’s A and B. Player A shouts out players C’s name, who then turns around to face Player A. As soon as he/she has turned Player A takes a shot on Player C who blocks and clears it, as soon as he/she is back in position with his/her back to the other players again Player B shouts his/her name and again as soon as he/she has turned Player B takes a shot. Player C must again block, clear the ball and get back into position as quickly as possible. Player A then restarts the drill all over again. Drill 5) a) o o o A C B o are the bollards. The players are represented by A,B, and C. Players A and B begin with the sliotars. The cones are 5m apart in a straight line. Player A strikes his/her sliotar and player C must block him/her down. Player C then turns to face Player B who goes to take his/her shot and Player C must cover the ground and block Player B down also. Player C then turns to face player A and the exercise repeats itself. b) X C X o o A B X are the goalposts. o are the bollards. The players are represented by A,B, and C. Players A and B have the sliotars. Players A and B are positioned on the edge of the small square, while player C is the goalkeeper. Player A takes a shot at the goals and Player C must advance from his/her goalline and smoother the shot. Player B then takes a shot and player C must smoother his/her shot. The exercise is repeated. Drill 6) C X X o B o A X are the goalposts. o are the bollards. The players are represented by A,B, and C. Player C has the sliotars. Player A is out past the far 65m line, while player B is 45m from the goalkeepers goal. Player C pucks the ball out to player A, he/she collects the puckout and quickly finds player B who in turn quickly returns it to player C. Player A then changes position and Player C must find him/her with a new puck out. The process repeats itself. |
